Toyama Oyabe Fighting Lanterns Festival

Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqmhaNzGNfA for a basic idea. LONG STORY SHORT: it is a LANTERN FESTIVAL, which is ALREADY GREAT, but then they SMASH THEM TOGETHER with TOTALLY SWEET VIOLENCE and occasionally they catch FIRE.
It's just past Kanazawa, in Toyama-ken, and it is tragically never crowded, so we should do our best to make it crowded this year, the way it completely deserves. Let's carpool up and take the highway! It's about 90 minutes from Fukui city via the highway.
