Hello,
I am new to Fukui and am currently looking for someone to go hiking with. I've done some research on nearby trails, and I plan to hike Mt.Arashima this Sunday (weather pending!). I'll also be hiking Mt.Hakusan at the beginning of Golden week if anyone wants to join?
If you ever want to go for a hike, or are part of a pre-existing hiking group, please message me at smile_for_charlotte@msn.com.
Fukui JALT educational presentations: May, June and July
Hello dear Fukui JETs,
Fukui JALT will be holding couple of presentations in the months to come. All of the presentations are in one way or another connected to your classrooms. Thus attending one of the upcoming presentations might provide you with some useful foreign language learning and teaching classroom ideas.
In the following months three presentations will be hosted:

Time: 13:30-15:30
Venue: Open University of Japan Fukui Campus, AOSSA, 7th Floor (here is link to AOSSA www.aossamall.jp/guide.html)
The following two presentations are scheduled for the same time and the same venue but on the following dates:
2. Sunday, June 24th. Saying “Hi” to Hi Friends by Matt Gilhool and Galina Shimo
3. Sunday, July 22nd. Using assessment to promote foreign language learning and teaching in elementary school context by Matt Hauca

Hardcore fun, anyone?!!
Hi everybody,
I'm a miserable researcher/student at the University of Fukui, stuck for the next 2 years of his short life in this to-good-to-be-true city /SARCASM
Anyways, after spending a lot of time watching "kawaii" things, going to temples and climbing mountains, I decided that it's time to do the thing that I really like: CLUBBING!
However, due to huge transportation and lodging costs in Japan, I'm trying my best to find travelling/clubbing partners
I usually prefer going to Nagoya, although I don't mind going to Tokyo and Osaka every now and then
So...if anybody is willing to organize such trip, sharing the travelling expenses please be generous and "bring me to life"
Thank you
Oita JET 2012 Charity Bike Ride

What
It’s the 15th Annual Oita JET Charity Bike Trip! Every year we, Oita JETs, (and anyone else who wants to come along) ride around Oita and the surrounding prefectures to raise money for charity.
Why
This year we will be raising money for Ashinaga, a Tokyo based nonprofit which provides education-focused financial and emotional support to children who have lost one or both parents due to a severe disability or death. It is currently in the process of building a “Rainbow House” which will provide both day-to-day and long-term psychosocial support to children who have lost one or both parents due to the Northern Japan disaster.
When
May 19-20 (Saturday, Sunday)
Where
We are planning to start in Oita’s Sakanoichi City and follow Oita’s beautiful East coast down to Saiki. We will then cut a bit inland to get to our accommodations. We will be staying in cabins at Onagara Forest Park (小半森林公園). This is a draft of the proposed route.
Who
Participation is open to anyone who wants to come. We are looking for riders (with a bike and helmet) volunteers (with a car or without), and people (with hearts) to help fund raise for this wonderful cause. Last year we had an amazing 54 participants and raised over $20,000 (185,086¥ went to Room to Read and 1,430,255¥ went to Tohoku) for charity. Come be a part of this amazing trip.
How Much
10,000¥. This includes one night’s accommodation, dinner, breakfast, snack packs for each day, gas money for the volunteers and a snazzy t-shirt! Any remaining money will be added to the charity money. Lunch for both days is separate.
If you have any questions, concerns or comments please feel free to e-mail us at oitajetcycling@gmail.com, check our website www.oitacharitycycling.theinaka.com or register now with this form. If we've peaked your interest even a small bit, here's some basic info you'll want to know! Hope to see you in May!

Toyama JET Film Festival & Contest
Love movies? Well, we are pleased to announce the first-ever Toyama Film
Festival– and in consequence, the CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS. You’ll have
three categories to choose from (or maybe you’ll even submit an entry for
each):
Movie Trailers/Commercials (1 minute)
Keep it short and sweet. Spoof an existing product or showcase your own!
Karaoke/Music Videos (5 minutes)
We’re all aware of those unforgettable videos that play along when
you’re belting out your favorite tune. Think you can do better? Think you
can do worse?
Any musicians looking to self-promote are free to submit a little
something-something of their own as well.
Short Films (5 minutes)
Give yourself the ultimate challenge of churning out a five minute flick.
You’ll just have to watch your pacing. Then again, you could always
submit a scene from a longer piece of work. Let the audience watch your
ending first? You could be the next Tarantino!
RULES:
There is no submission fee
ANYONE is free to participate
Entries must be in either English or Japanese (subtitles are appreciated, but not necessary)
Participants may submit as many entries as they like*
Entries are DUE APRIL 14TH for review
We’re in the process of securing the venue, but the tentative date for
viewing said entries will be Saturday, May 19th. Ticket prices will be only
500 yen, with all proceeds going to Make a Wish Japan, Hokuriku.
