FJET's July Newsletter

Hello All You Beautiful FJET Members!

Every month FJET will send out a newsletter to let you know what FJET is planning for the upcoming month ahead! So mark your calendars and watch for more emails!!

August 11th - Mikuni Fireworks (I.C. event)
Social Secretaries will provide you with the necessary information...
Last year the I.C. took the Echizen Tetsudo special train to Mikuni and arrived around 2 pm.   There were also people at the station to try to meet those who wanted to attend the fireworks only.  That train was something in the neighborhood of 4:30.

August 16-17 - Fuji Climb (Please note the date change!)
Ever year, FJET gathers our wide-eyed first years, puts them on a bus and sends them up good ole Fuji-san (in an unofficial initiation). Truth be told, it really is a once in a lifetime experience.
On the way back we will be able to drop people off at the Tsuruga, Takefu, and Sabae Inter Changes .
If you are able to pick up the newbies at the interchanges please let me know!

August 23 - 24 Ono Watering Hole Camping Adventure
Wonderful camping at a hidden treasure in Ono.
More information to come.

August 22nd - Contract Signing After Party
A party...well, after the Contract Signing Ceremony. Start the year off right with a welcome party to meet all our new Fukui friends.
More information to come!

End of August/Early September - Camping/Beach Party Down South
Everybody needs a little southern comfort. Last chance to show off that summer bod... Tentative; watch for emails. Any southerners want to help with this? Contact fjetsocial@gmail.com!

That's all for now!

Fukui Orientation Volunteers Needed!!!

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope that you are all having a great week! It's that time of year again. We'll soon have to say goodbye to many of our friends. Luckily just a short time later, a new bunch will arrive for us to meet and introduce to the land we love. Wouldn't it be awesome to be one of the first people they meet in Fukui? Think about how much you love those people who were first kind to you when you arrived.

You want to know how you can help?! EXCELLENT! Here are the things that we would love volunteers for!

July 30th & August 6
• Welcome Dinner at Uotami – details to follow, let me know if you’re interested! It's a great time for you to show the newbies how fun Fukui is!

July 31st & August 7
• Gender Discussions (in the afternoon) – 3 guys & 3 girls
• Walk About (in the afternoon) – As many ALTs as we can. We have a BIG group of newbies coming in, so the more the merrier!
• I.C. Welcome BBQ- everyone is welcome!! This year we won’t need drivers! So come and have a good time!

August 1st & August 8th
• Settling in Workshop (in the morning) – We will need people representing all of Fukui-ken! It would be an ideal for the new block leaders and anyone else wanting to help the newbies learn more about their homes! 2 or 3 people from each area would be great! (Please let me know which area you will be willing to help out with!)
o North-
o Fukui City-
o Okuetsu-
o Tannan-
o Rainan-

• Lunch – There is a lunch that everyone is invited to join at the hotel for 1000yen.

So please email (fjetpresidents@gmail.com) back ASAP if you are able to volunteer! Please let me know which date and what you would like to help out with! If you have any questions feel free to ask by email or call Lauren at 090 1318 5568!

Thanks for your help in advance!

Welcome New Fukui JETS 2008!

Dear New Fukui JET,

Congratulations on getting your placement! There is a strong possibility that you have never heard of Fukui Prefecture, but rest assured it is a wonderful place. On behalf of the Fukui JET community we would like to welcome you to your new home! We are the 2008-2009 FJET Co-Presidents, Chris Redd and Lauren Stockhausen.

FJET, the Fukui Chapter of National Association of JETs, exists to help you and all Fukui JETs by being the informational hub of a strong community of more than 100 teachers. We strive to achieve this goal by writing useful documents, helping with Fukui Orientation, and organizing various events and trips to help keep you involved during your time in Fukui.

Over the coming weeks you will receive a surplus of information from Japan. However, this handy document should always be at the top of your reading pile. We recommend that you read it, digest it, read it again, and put it under your pillow when you sleep. It will prepare you for your upcoming adventure in Japan. Hopefully it will answer some of your questions about living and working in Fukui on the JET Program. If you lose this guide you can view it on this website. Also, you can always email us at FJETpresidents@gmail.com.

You are about to embark on an exciting adventure that could quite possibly change your life, but it won't all be easy! This handbook has been revised yearly and contains the distilled thoughts of many an FJET committee member. We'd like to thank all contributors for their hard work. We'd also like to thank Melissa Avis and the Fukui Board of Education for their hard work and advice. For now, sit back and let FJET share their words of wisdom!

Sincerely,

Chris Redd & Lauren Stockhausen
