Hiking
Hello,
I am new to Fukui and am currently looking for someone to go hiking with. I've done some research on nearby trails, and I plan to hike Mt.Arashima this Sunday (weather pending!). I'll also be hiking Mt.Hakusan at the beginning of Golden week if anyone wants to join?
If you ever want to go for a hike, or are part of a pre-existing hiking group, please message me at smile_for_charlotte@msn.com.

i'm sure he won't mind this, but try sending a message to this guy. He's the coordinator of our outdoors club. He knows good places to go and enjoys hiking too.
If you fancy sending me your email, I can send you some links to handy maps of nearby mountains to climb. You may have already researched it but there might be a couple you've missed.
Hello Monkey Stu,
thanks for your help. I found a few maps online, and some in a great little hiking shop just behind Texas Hands pizza. However, I unfortunately can't read Japanese, so they're not much use to me. If you could email me some links, that would be fantastic! My email address is smile_for_charlotte@msn.com.
Ta very much : )
Hi Charlotte and a warm welcome to Fukui!
Just noticed your post about hikes and I'm interested to know what your experience is in hiking and what you hope to cover while you're in Fukui.
Did you end up going on your hike out to Arashima today? I've yet to climb it as I heard the initial ascent is quite perilous (up an old ski slope).
As Stuart mentioned, I organize Outdoors Events in Fukui and inform those interested in other events happening in the prefecture. I'm sending out a newsletter today regarding some updates to the spring, which includes a hike that I'm organizing for Sunday, June 17 up Nosaka-san in Tsuruga.
Hope you can make it out and message me anytime if you have any comments or queries about hiking here. I have 3 years under my belt in Fukui, so I'm quite familiar with the more popular climbs.
Take care,
Mike
Hi Mike,
thank you very much for the newsletter you sent me, I'm definitely up for the hike in June.
I didn't get around to hiking Arashima as the weather was crap that day, but I did do a little hike and camp around the Hakusan area on Monday and Tuesday. It was still a little difficult due to the landslides that still blocked some roads and paths, but it was absolutely beautiful!
I used be an expat in South Korea, and I hiked all the time when I was there. I also hiked Mt.Kilimanjaro last August, although it's a feat disrespected by how unfit and out of shape I am now. So I am very keen to get my hike on again.
That's so great to hear that you have 3 years of hiking experience in Fukui, thank you for kindly offering to share your info with me. I will most definitely be in touch.
Charlotte.
Hi Charlotte!
I tried to look for you on facebook since what I had to say doesn't really need to be said to everyone on the forum. Anyhow, I like hiking, too and would be interested in meeting up sometime if you'd like. You can find me on facebook as Ashley Jill Murphey. If I don't catch up for Hakusan, I hope you have a great time!! Looking forward to meeting you soon.
Hey! A fellow Murphy! Well, close enough anyway : )
I'm not on facebook, but feel free to drop me an email. It would be nice to meet up sometime, let me know when you are free.
Charlotte.
