Favorite ESL resource sites

By dpholland10 - Posted on 02 September 2010

So I have Planet Eigo and an old copy of Team Taught Pizza (what the hell is with that name) from my predecessor, and I've been very impressed with www.edochan.com/teaching, one of the provided links from the multitude of seminar packets. I am, however, always looking for more online resources for lesson planning, but it's hard to weed out the pay services and scams from the useful sites.
The included .pdfs on FJET are great too, but I'm always a glutton for more.
Anybody have a favorite go-to for lesson plans?
Share 'em here, and I promise I'll give you credit when the teacher compliments me for my canned lesson.

It's not as focused purely on EFL-type stuff, but there is a good deal of information about teaching methods on this site, and if you do a little digging, some pretty nice classroom games:

for those who are interested, it contains an article about incorporating comics into lessons:

I find that a great portal to start on is http://www.eslteachersboard.com/ - probably heard of it before. but it's got loads of links for resources, information and jobs after/instead of (I didn't say that) JET, if you still want to teach English.

The links may take you to other sites, but like I said, it's a great starting site/portal

Thanks, Stu. I do wish the site was a bit more intuitive to use, but intuitive design and ESL/EFL websites do not seem to be bedfellows.

Mostly, I'm just a little worried about what to do in the first few weeks (everything after should be a breeze), and I have found surprisingly little information in regards to that.

Maybe it's not ESL but it is related to our jobs. I use jhsenglipediaproject.com like all the time. It's where I go when a teacher comes at 5 minutes to class and asks me to do a lesson. You can select elementary, junior or high school (junior is the most developed of the three) then you choose your textbook. There is always new stuff being added and it's an easy site to use. It's free and has a lot of worksheets that you can just print out or use as a base to make your own.

Hell yeah it's ESL. And hell yeah it's awesome.
Anybody tried this Mario Kart game? Looks like the kids would love it but it seems like a bitch to explain. I'm sure they'd get the concepts just because of the Mario Kart packaging, but it seems as if it would be like explaining a board game in another language.

Here are some websites that have proved to be a good resource...
http://teachingactivities.pbworks.com/
http://www.sendaiedu.com/
and of course the ever so handy http://jhsenglipediaproject.com
But these are just 3 that I can come up with on the top of my head, there are many many more out there. As soon as I get internet at home I will be able to post even more resources available out there.
