Eiheiji Lantern Festival TODAY

Good late night/early morning all!

Just wanted to let you know that this evening is the Eiheiji Lantern Festival in Eiheiji Town.

The lantern festival is a beautiful sight. You'll see and hear the monks of Eiheiji Temple chant the wishes and prayers of the people as candlelit lanterns carrying the hopes of their makers float down the Kuzuryu river. There will also be a fireworks display to finish the night properly. I can't describe in words how nice of an event this is so I hope you'll come check it out.

The festival starts a bit before sundown and takes place at Eiheiji Kasen Park (永平寺河川公園) on the (left-hand) shores of the Kuzuryu River. The park is very close to Shimoshihi (下志比駅) Station on the Echizen Line, only a 10 minute walk!

The organizers of the festival beg you to take public transit if possible because there is very limited parking. If you take the Echizen line they'll even give you a coupon for the small market they'll have at the festival when you get off the train at Shimoshihi Station. How about that?
