1st Footy Practice (Undou Kouen)

Event Date:
September 5, 2010

Welcome to the first footy (soccer) practice of the 2010-11 season at Fukui-city Undou Kouen!

GETTING THERE
The practice will be held at Fukui City Undou Kouen (Sports Park) about 2-3 km Southwest of Fukui station (on the Western side of Asuwa mountain). Here's a link to a map: http://maps.google.co.jp/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=36.054095,136.18...

If you don't think you can find the place on your own I can meet you at Fukui station at 2:30 pm (East side of the station near AOSSA) and take you there, but please get in touch with me first (090-9444-1894 / viljami dot nykanen at gmail dot com). If there are more people that I can fit in my car (4+) I'll try to get some more cars, but please please do contact me well ahead of 2:30!

PRACTICES
The practice itself is open to everyone, that is pros and beginners alike. Last year we had both men and women's teams and are hoping to get both running this year as well despite the players we lost to the bigger leagues back home. Our practices usually include a warm-up, a few drills and a final game. We try to finish before 6 pm. Try to show up on time or let me know you'll be late.

NO EQUIPMENT?
Even if you don't have any soccer equipment don't let it stop you from coming out and kicking the ball. All you really need is a pair of running shoes (well, a pair of shorts and a T-shirt might be a good idea as well, not to mention sun screen and water bottle). If you later decide to get some equipment like cleats etc. just let us know and we can arrange a trip to Sport Depo after one of the Sunday practices. There are also a couple of slightly used cleats, shinguards etc. that the leavers have given us to pass on.

CAN'T MAKE IT?
I've heard that some people have a Family Net matching on that Sunday and the families might want to take you somewhere after the initial meeting is over, or that some people cannot make it due to their school festivals. If that's the case don't worry, just let me know you are interested in playing but cannot make it this Sunday. We are going to try to have practices every Sunday from now on until the pitches close late November.

WHY PRACTICE?
Besides keeping you fit and healthy and being fun, we practice with the aim of forming a men's and a women's team to join one of the bi-annual ALT tournaments which take place in the fall and spring in both Nagano and Awajishima. These weekends are a blast, besides a load of games on grass pitches there's always a good deal of partying involved and Fukui naturally has a reputation to keep up - mostly on the dance floor on Sat evenings and also on legendary Sunday hangovers. And lastly, if you want in for the party, not so much the footy, there's always the possibility of coming along for the ride as a supporter!
