What is FJET?
For those of you who arrived in Tokyo with the JET Program, do you remember the people who wore bright t-shirts, the ones that greeted you as soon as you got out of customs, who answered your questions as soon as you checked into your hotel room, the ones that coordinated the workshops, etc.? Well those were the AJET folks who help support the 6000 strong JET participants throughout Japan.
FJET on the otherhand is on the more local scale. Prior to 1999 FJET was called AJET Fukui but due to some ambiguity concerning the collection and usage of AJET dues, FJET was formed by local Fukui JETs, hence the name. FJET is here to help support the local JETs throughout the year through various events, sound advice and an open ear.
FJET is funded through a one time/lifetime membership fee of 2000 yen. Every yen goes back into the FJET community by subsidizing events and to charities that the FJET Community supports. The events that FJET have and continues to organize are highly enjoyable and irreplaceable.
If you're a member already, pat yourself on the back. If not, why don't you join us? Joining gives you discounts to certain events and helps you stay informed and involved with the community in Fukui.
Every May the members of FJET elect new committee members. These multi-talented people have the task of organizing events, bridging the foreign and Japanese community, producing JET fuel, maintaining fjet.org, planning Fukui orientation and anything else that is required to keep Fukui one of the most happening and friendliest places in the whole of Japan and the JET Program.
