Fukui Fist Joga Bonito 2008-09
Hello everyone,
we are sending this email out to all soccer players and enthusiasts alike to inform you of the upcoming practices as well as the Nagano Tournament on Oct. 4th & 5th. Last year's tourney was awesome - but don't take our word for it. An excellent video of the Fist season 2007-08, compiled by Dan Schick, one of our previous sports reps, is available on youtube (in two parts):

1. Nagano tournament (October 4th-5th)
Join us for two mad days of kicking the "foot-sphere-orb-game-ball" and partying in Sugadaira Kougen in Nagano-ken. Even if you aren't too keen on the sphere-orb kicking, you can always join in the party as a supporter! The prices for the tourney are: players 16.500 yen and supporters 14.500 yen. These include hotel accommodation (inc. meals), bus shuttle to / from Sania Park to hotel, tournament participation fees, a 500 yen donation to The Pepy Ride, entrance to the party and curry lunch on Sunday. We, your loving sports reps will also have to charge a 500 yen equipment fee from the players, which will go towards getting new orbs, bibs, jerseys and such, making the total for players 17.000 yen. This Sunday at the practice there will be a signup sheet for Nagano.
2. Practices

Next practices are going to take place this Sunday (8/31) in Undou Kouen from 3 pm. There is a volunteer visit to the orphanage scheduled right before the practice, we know, but there should be some people coming to the practice straight from the orphanage. You can probably ask Mike about it. From here on, practices will be held on Sundays starting at 3 pm. Please try to arrive on time so that we can leave on time as well. Also, before the tournament we are trying to organize a practice game, which will probably be held 2 weeks before the tournament weekend. We'll let you know.
3. Jerseys
We are putting in an order for this year's jerseys on Sunday after the practice, so if you are going to Nagano PLEASE either come by, reply to this email or call us with the jersey details. Here is how it works:
Base price:
ladies 3,864 yen
mens 5,292 yen
Extras:
Fukui-logo (chest; in Japanese) and name (back; romaji, kanas and kanji all ok) 2.415 yen
Number (back) 1-9: 840 yen, 10+ : 1,470 yen
Number (front) 1-9: 367 yen, 10+ : 682 yen
Size chart (in centimeters):
S (height: 155-165 chest: 80-88 waist: 60-76)
M (height: 165-175 chest: 96-104 waist: 84-94)
L (height: 175-185 chest: 96-104 waist: 84-94)
XO (height: 185-195 chest: 104-112 waist: 94-104)
So, basically you need to choose your size and tell us if you want any extras on the shirt. You can have your name written in romaji (regular latin alphabet), katakana, hiragana or even kanji if you want - the alphabet you choose has no effect on the price. If you are curious as to what the jerseys look like, please take a look at the youtube video.
4. Equipment
Some leavers donated us their soccer gear, and we will bring these to the practice so you can see if any of them fit. Also, if there is interest, we can organise an equipment run to sports depot or another sports store on Sunday after the practice. To play in the tournament you need black shorts, a pair of black socks and shin guards. That being said, if you are cheap like Andy you can always stuff some old edition of fukui shimbun into your socks, but be warned, this is the inaka and the scarcity of news makes a thin paper.. In any case, let us know on Sunday if you want us to take you shopping for soccer gear.
And once again, those who can't make it to Sunday practices but still want to join in the fun, please please please let us know that you are coming to the Nagano tourney and want a jersey. Viljami (090-9444-1894), Galina (090-6277-1246) and email: fjetsports@gmail.com
Finally, my apologies: many of you will receive this message twice because I'm sending it out to the FJET mailing list as well as to a separate soccer list. This is to make sure everyone gets the message.
Have a good weekend and see you out on the pitch this Sunday!! We're already getting excited about Nagano!!
